The Staff Judge Advocate's area client services offices serve all Army personnel and their families assigned to units and organizations in Hawaii and certain other locations in USARPAC.

All Active Component members of the Armed Forces of the United States (and their family members), members of the Armed Forces of the United States who are receiving military retirement or disability pay (and their family members), are entitled to legal assistance. A person seeking legal assistance will provide proof of eligibility prior to receiving legal assistance by displaying a military identification card, such as DD Form 2A (U.S. Armed Forces Identification Card), a DD Form 1173 (Uniform Services Identification and Privilege Card), military orders, or other documentation.

The Claims Office no longer handles household goods shipment claims, privately owned vehicle shipment claims or incident to military service claims (includes, but not limited to, on-post POV theft and vandalism, on-post quarters damage and theft, unusual occurrence such as fire, flood, hurricane, earthquake, or losses attributed to unusual weather conditions.) These are now handled by the US Army Center for Personnel Claims Support, Fort Knox Kentucky, phone (502) 626-3000, DSN 464-3000, https://www.JAGCNet.army.mil/Pclaims.

Schofield Barracks no longer operates a Tax Center. The number of available free or low-cost do-it-yourself tax sites available to Servicemembers and retirees outweighs the cost of diverting essential manpower to run a Tax Center.

Military OneSource provides free online tax preparation for military members (http://www.militaryonesource.mil/-/miltax-free-tax-services-from-military-onesource).

There are Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites that will help you file your taxes for free if you generally make $54,000 or less (https://www.hawaiitaxhelp.org/free-tax-help/free-tax-sites/). VITA sites accept clients by appointment, only, unless otherwise indicated. A list of VITA sites can be found under both the Federal Income Tax and State Income Tax sections.

You should prepare your federal income tax return before preparing your state income tax return.

All Servicemembers and their spouses are encouraged to read the information papers, State Tax Domicile and the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act and The Military Spouses Residency Relief Act found in the State Income Tax section. This will assist them in determining state income tax liability.

The Legal Assistance will not be assisting individuals prepare their individual tax returns.
